Puddles on the Floor... Revenge or Renal Problem?

(click/tap to enlarge)

Inappropriate urination problems are not uncommon in dogs. What do you do when "Nitro" starts peeing on the floor or has accidents at night?

Owners should be aware that finding unexpected puddles on the floor may warrant a trip to the veterinarian. The urination issue may be from behavioral or medical problems. You will need to keep records on these habits because your veterinarian will want to know how long this has been going on and how often during the day it occurs.

If your puppy is still house training, it's possible further training is needed and not medical attention. Once behavioral problems have been ruled out, your veterinarian can narrow down the list of medical problems that can cause your dog's inappropriate urination. Incontinence problems in dogs can be caused by a variety of problems. Age, breed and sex can predispose your pet to these issues.

Your vet may choose to perform a urinalysis and urine culture to rule out bacterial infections. If infection is the cause of your pet’s problem your veterinarian will usually prescribe an antibiotic.

Not every medical condition is an easy fix and some dogs are unfortunate to have a diagnosis of kidney/bladder stones. There are a few breeds predisposed to bladder stones. Research your dog for these genetic traits.

When in doubt always check with your pet’s healthcare provider.

Dogs see with their noses

Quigley, Brandy, and Little Bit think snooping in the yard is more fun with friends. Dogs see things with their noses that we humans can't begin to imagine.

Camp K9

Dr. Sue had lots of fun teaching campers and their shelter dog friends the basics of canine massage.

Kids and shelter dogs have great fun at Camp K9 a summer program sponsored by the Dorothy O'Connor Pet Adoption Center (DOCPAC).

Each kid pairs with a dog for a week and teaches them sit, come, stay, agility skills, and other good doggie manners that make the pups more adoptable. I volunteer each week to teach the campers about touch and canine massage.

Adele Spoils My IWs

My rule says dogs are not allowed to beg from the table. When my friend Adele visits, she doesn't feed them from the table. She goes a step farther and feeds them from her bowl!!!

At least they wait their turn for a spoonful. In case you're wondering – no, they do not get fed from my bowl.

Jolly Boy is Growing Fast

Jolly Boy & Little Bit

Jolly Boy came to me a month ago, a wonderful 3 month old Irish Wolfhound pup. Little Bit, my Special Blend, liked to sprawl on the couch and play tug-of-war with him. A month later, they still like to play tug-of-war, but Jolly has sprouted up quite a bit. He is growing like a weed!
